Do you find flying an unpleasantly stressful experience? You are not the only one! Many travellers experience unhealthy stress levels before boarding a plane.
1. Arrive on time
At the airport, read a newspaper or have a cup of tea or something refreshing. Give yourself some time to settle down before boarding the plane.
2. Trust
This is easier said than done. But the figures do not lie: the chances of being involved in a fatal car crash are many times greater. What’s more, the chances of a plane crashing are 1 in 11 million. And planes are thoroughly inspected before departure.
3. Food and drinks
Be aware of what you eat and drink. Caffeine and sugar can increase nervousness. Instead, drink water, juice or a glass of wine if this helps you to relax. But don’t go overboard with alcohol
4. Turbulence
Turbulence feels unpleasant but is not dangerous. Be aware that this can occur.
5. Breathing
Be aware of your breathing. Relaxed breathing, with a longer exhalation than inhalation, calms your body.
6. Distraction
Distract yourself during the flight. Read a book or listen to music. Or create a list of the things you would like to see and do during your holiday.
